SMALL. ELEGANT. EFFICIENT.

The studio came with awkward nooks, unnecessary interior partitions, and exposed mechanical units at the window which made it difficult for the owner to utilize the space. By surgically removing some partitions and opening up the bed to the closet, the sleeping area doubled in space and efficiency. Furthermore, regular swing doors were converted to black steel-framed glass sliding doors to make the bathroom, closet, and sleeping area, one axial functional connection.

The once exposed and hideous AC unit is now concealed in a custom walnut-finished alcove inspired by Japanesque and Scandinavian millwork. Weird nooks suddenly disappear and become an assortment of open shelves and semi-closed cabinetry.

Home is where is feels just right.

Hui residence is a condo renovation in Upper West Side, New York. The studio is infused with warm walnut tones, matte black metals, and marble accents that elevates the experience from what was originally bought. The pad quickly became the furry one’s next best place without hesitation.
